In introducing our intentions for the intended prayer focus in October, let me start by first giving some thoughts on the importance of the whole intent. Here are some thoughts on prayer from Dr. Myles Munro

 What is Prayer?

1.    Prayer is man giving God the legal right and permission to interfere in earths affairs
2.    Prayer is man giving heaven earthly license to influence earth.
3.    Prayer is terrestrial license for celestial interference.
4.    Prayer is man exercising his legal authority on earth to invoke heavens influence on the planet.

These definitive aspects explain many statements made in scripture as they relate to heavenly activities on the earth. Let us look at a few:

  • (2Chron. (7:14)
  • (Luke 18:1-2)
  • (Eph. 6:17-18)
  • (1Thess. 5:16-19)
  • (Matt. 16:19-20)
  • (Matt. 18-20)

These scriptures give mankind the authority and prerogative to determine what happens on the earth. In fact, a careful biblical study of God's dealing with mankind and the earth reveals that He did nothing on earth without the cooperation of a person.  Every action taken by God in the earth realm required the involvement of a human being.

John Wesley once said, "God does nothing but in answer to prayer". Prayer is, therefore not an option for mankind but a necessity.

Preparation of the Heart is Important

Joel saw the coming disaster against Judah first as a locust plaque, then as an invading army, God had intended to bring judgment on Judah. Joel cried out for a response in repentance; (Joel.2:12-17)

The Process

  • Returning to the Lord with all our heart; "repentance".
  • Humbling one's self (fasting) in deep contrition.
  • Rendering our hearts not our garments, "heb, kaw-rah, "to cut out", "to tear".

Hos 10:12 - "It is time to seek the Lord."
